:) heading for San Carlos this Sat.  I will be bring a boat and leaving it in San Carlos.  I know that the registration requirement has changed if I remain in Sonora, but is there any advantage to geting a 10 year certificate for the boat.  I plan of leaving it in San Carlos and returning in Jan. and Feb.  any recommendations as to  dry storage when I leave at the end of Oct.? and while there,  Marina's?  I know that Marina real is a little cheaper and closer to the fishiing, but I will probably be using a Mexian guide or captain and it seems like there are more around the San Carlos Marina.  Also the last time I was there Marina Real didnt have gas--but I saw on this site that they now do---is that correct?  Finally, any lures or equiptment I should definitely try to pick up in the states.  I have several rods and reels and lures but having never fished for Dorado I I will also be looking for someone to fish with if any one is looking for a boat

If you are going to leave the boat in storage in Mexico, we recommend you get the 10 year TIP.  You will also need Mexican liability insurance on the boat and can order from the insurance page on the main web site.

any recommendations as to dry storage when I leave at the end of Oct.?

Both marinas have associated dry storage so will depend on which marina you choose.

 and while there, marinas?

We like Marina San Carlos because it is more in the center of things and closer to home so for us more convenient.

Not knowing what you have now, you will want medium size feathers and trolling lures and the cedar plug is always a good all around lure.  Among the many lures of choice are Pakulas and small Black Barts (expensive), Mold Craft, Sevenstrand, Zuker and Dulcecita and Jas (moderate).  You might want to do a keyword search on this forum on lures and some of these brand names to see previous posts that may give very specific recommendations.

Hope this helps

Bart

Is there any place around Tucson that would have salt water lures? or is there a place there in San Carlos.  I have some medium feathers and lead lures, but as you know you can never have enough.

Go to Panchos Baja Tackle - Miracle Mile exit, and laess than one mile east of the freeway. He has a full line of saltwater tackle and keeps up with what's hot and what's not. Tell Dennis No Sniveling said HI!

Hi Dog -  are you still gonna be in SC the week of the 16th?  If yes, my husband and dad might be interested in fishing with you on your boat.  Let me know.  Monika

The Miracle Mile exit is just past Prince road if you are coming down I-10 from Phoenix.  If you are coming from east of Tucson take I-10 past downtown and it is just after Grant Rd.  You will see it on the highway signs.  It is not hard to find.  Once you get on Miracle Mile the tackle shop is maybe two blocks down on the right.  It may not be that far.  It is on the right though.  If I remember correctly  they recently painted the building a pretty bright yellow or yellowish green. Somebody else can correct me if I am wrong.   Hope that helps!

You have it correct - chartreuse and blue, I think. It's a LONG two blocks, just past the Circle K, across from the big vacant KMart looking building.

You may want to check the Sportsman's Warehouse at Ina/Thornydale area.  They have some saltwater lures and tackle at low prices. They have the Boone Tuna Treat in multiple colors.  Purple seems to work best on the last trip. 3 Tuna!

I am thinking of getting the new Penn Torque reel.

Just took my 21ft center console to SC this weekend (Sept 29) from Tucson.  They made me do the 10 year TIP at km21.  Cost $55us and about 1 1/2hrs by the time it was all done.  Make sure you have the boat reg/title, trailer title, and outboard serial number if you have an outboard.  I got liability policy in Nogalas Az. for $140 us for 1 yr.  The boat is now stored in the Marina Secca yard about 3/4 mile from the marina for $57 us per month.  It's costs $6.50 us to launch (covers in and out) and about $14 us to have a slip over nite.

Good luck and drive careful.

You take a left on the road just after where the "African Queen" "boat/yacht" is located as you are leaving town.  Sorry I don't know all the road names yet.  You can see all the masts from the sail boats off to the left in the yard.  Interesting place though, lots of 40ish foot sail boats that will never ever see the sea again.  Kindof a shame.  There are lots of places to store boats in San Carlos, so shop around for what best fits your needs.  I was just happy to finally get mine out of the driveway in Tucson.

Did you get yours down there?  I was sure glad not to have to tow that ting back again after a long weekend on the water.
