I'm sure Bart or Steve or Stuart has answered my question many times the past six months but I didn't retain it and can't locate it in prior posts. Our sons share ownership in a boat and trailer, the boat registered with the state and the trailer has a state title. We come down through Nogales and San Carlos has been our final destination. Can my wife and I pull their boat across the border? Is K21 still there for that purpose? Do I need their title and registration and a notorized letter of permission to have and use their boat? Or is this not a good idea? I would get the permit and insurance necessary for Mexico. Thank you, Ron

These days, nobody is checking anything until you go past Empalme (which is past San Carlos). The only thing you need to get at the 21KM now is your tourist visa.

You should be fine. Just in case of accident or other emergency, have the registration for both the boat and the trailer. It would also be worthwhile for you to have a notarized letter from your son saying you have permission to take the boat to San Carlos. That way, you have it if asked for any reason, but there is no formal check anymore at 21KM.

Ron- Anyone Can now pull the Boat from the States To San Carlos..No problem.. No reason to stop at 21k unless you need a visa..no permit for your car or boat needed...

Here In San Carlos the Marina office will ask you for the proof of ownership and Insurance,( bring the boat Reg. and Copies) Given you and your son have the same last name this should be no problem, when I show proof of ownership the Marina Never ask me for ID. to verify that I'm the same person On the Title...Bring along the Notarized letter for the Marina anyway, But I'm sure they will not ask for it

hope this Helps

Steve

I don't think that's true.  Only the owner or a close relative can take it (even with a notarized letter).  Are you aware of a specific rule change on this point?

The law is only the owner or close relative can drive a vehicle.  If the feds stop you driving/pulling a vehicle that is not yours they could seize the property.

Federales stopped a friend of mine (American) pulling my trailer with notarized permission.  Good thing he was a nice guy, spoke fluent spanish, and had some extra cash on him.  They gave him a very hard time.  He was really stressed out about it, and this from a guy who doesn't get stressed about anything.

I would think this would be the same as a car.  You can use the car of a blood relative in Mexico, ie my son could drive my truck.  The proper paperwork would include registrations, etc and the boys birth certificates and a letter of permission.  That should do it.

Thank you all for taking time to pass along the advice. If all fails, guess we would just have to go on one of Steve's boats. My advice to you if you come out to Wyoming, never kick a buffalo chip on a hot day. Again, many thanks!! Ron
