A year ago in November I put down my new Brittany for her inaugural outing.. The last i saw of her that a:m was her going over a hill full speed.. What does this have to do with saltwater fishing?? Nothing about fishing, but about people living the sporting life... I stopped a truck and asked the 2 quail hunters if they see my dog please bring her back or take her home and call me... I stayed right where I last saw her and whistled until dark... Then went down to the Suburban to get my sleeping bag and spent the night right where I saw her last.. Out of the dark desert air a brown pick up rumbles up to me.. The 2 quailers from earlier in the a:m and they have my dog... I bought them dinner at El Rey's and enjoyed a festive evening.. My point is how nice the sporting people are..
I needed my boat moved this weekend, Steve from Catch-22 offered his car, no questions, just use it.. Saturday night our road car blew the top off the Toyota radiator, now we are in a jam.. Fortunately we are in front of the rental... Sunday I hitched a ride to Steve's, got the boat moving car and moved the boat, nothing I could do on Monday about the radiator..
Could not get a rental car, Steve and Shannon graciously loaned us the Saturn.. "Bring it back when done".. No questions...
We needed to get my boat outta the water... No problem, Steve called Fernando, Fernando hauled my boat to the Ranchitos and refused gas money...
Sometimes we get down and think negatively about our lives, but we only need to think about the people we are spending our time with and realize how blessed we are...
Given the situation, I am sure any fisherman on that dock or quail hunter would step up and be a true friend..
Thank you Steve, Shannon & Fernando and all the other men & women who follow the sporting life...

FM,
You're talking about three of my favorite people in my circle of new friends in San Carlos. They have opened their hearts, minds, and homes to many people who met them on this board.
Fishing lessons (The U of Hoo!), a cool place to sleep (the air-conditioned stateroom of Catch 22), "Your boat's broken? Go with us!", "Pull your boat out for you in the morning (so you can fish longer while I'm working)? No problem"! (Thanks Fernando!). Come to our house, we're having a b-b-que with a bunch of fishing friends - you're invited!
I am proud to call them friends!

This is so true. I'm sure all these people grew up in the sporting world. But I'm worried about the next generation. It seems we are in a shrinking industry. We have more competition for easy fun (gameboy, nintendo, xbox, computer games) nowadays than there was in the past. It was great to see pics of Steve taking his daughter out fishing. My hat off to him. The last time in Mexico I never touched the poles.....just let my son 17 & daughter 15 do all the fishing.....daughter 6 fish/son 5 was quite the compitition. I really enjoyed it. Here there is also a changing of the guard in the "good ol boys" that were in DFG they are or have retired, new officers are very much into enforcement not education/family/fun. Which is in itself a deterent.

I love San Carlos, and the people are what make the place. I have had similar experiences with the great people of San Carlos. As sportsmen and women we value the gems of the sea, forest, rives, praries, wetlands, etc. and strive to keep the earth healthy so we can enjoy our life's passions.
My wife gave birth to our first born this past May, Robert "Bob" David Blair named after both of his grandpas. He isn't able to talk really, but I think I have heard him say "marlin" a couple of times. His grandpa purchased his first penn casting reel, and we look forward to teaching him to fish before he can talk. He is already participating in "Aloha Friday" also known as "Hawaiian shirt Friday" around our office. His cousin was born 4 days after him, she has already been to San Carlos, and felt the sand between her toes. We purchased a home with my Brother and his wife in San Carlos so we can share the sea and the things we love with our son and niece.
There is a bright future for these kids and others of their generation. They will grow to value the cuture of foreign lands as well as their own, and become great stewards of the earth. I can hardly wait to see the great man my son will become!
This is a nice thread for a Friday morning and makes me want to be down south dragging a bunch of colorful plastic lures and feathers behind a boat. Happy fishing!
Matt
PS - This is a photo of Bob this morning chillin by the pool.
