Well said Joe, and I agree.
If Matt needs any help he knows how to get hold of me.

My greatest day of fishing!!! SAD. We are guests in their country, Mexico. We need to lead, by example, to the locals. Your "spin" on this story is lame. Try this story on a fish and game in the U.S.........No Mas....it's your worst day fishing!

Many of us know the legal limits.; and many do not. Not knowing the law is no excuse,,,,,,in the US or Mexico. Perhaps we could ask that everyone that puts a boat in the water is given a copy of the fishing regs,,,,pretty simple about 2 pages. Personally I want to catch 2 "big" dorado per day per angler and release the fingerlings and stockers (trout lingo) and let them grow up.

Joe
Thanx for pointing out what the LIFT did on this issue. Suspect that could be done at all tournaments and I will certainly help to make that happen. All it takes is a bit of coordination and announcements by tournament control on the radio.
Also is there a location or business where excess fish could be dropped off during non-tournament periods? Thinking maybe Froggys or other, but want to insure that goes to the kids and not on somebody's menu. I know at times I have more fillets than I can reasonably use/store and give some to friends, etc, but would certainly be willing to donate as well. Again this is something that can be announced periodically over the VHF and think the results may be surprising.
thanx for the great tip

Bart - I'm replying for my husband, Joe. I'm volunteering with Matt and Meyra of H20 Millenium Water Treatment. Their idea is to try to organize and coordinate the small amount of people in the area who have been donating to and working with the Empalme Orphanage (one of 3 in the area). A website is being worked on and will, hopefully, be up and running soon.
Matt has volunteered to use his office at H20 Millenium as a drop-off point for fish. Any of us (we're only part time) involved with the Orphanage will be glad to deliver the fish safely to the kids. They (42 of them from infant to teen) are often sorely lacking in protein and, surprisingly, it's very rare for them to get any fish. The H20 office is in the front portion of Marina Terra, along the street.
We were all too tied up with business/visitors to be at the Men's Tourney, but hope to get other people interested in helping during future tourneys--it takes very little effort, really. Alex of Froggy's donated his cooler for the LIFT. It is hoped that, in the near future, a large cooler can be placed at the marinas on weekends for drop off of excess fish. During the week, fish can be dropped off with Matt and maybe radio calls can be monitored by someone in the future to facilitate even further.
Thanks so much, Bart, for helping bring this issue to the forefront. Anyone interested in donating or buying basic groceries to deliver, can contact Meyra or Matt for directions--they are in the Rescate directory. When the new website is up and running, we'd love to post it on your forum.

Bart,
I also know Flaco has posted his name and number as a contact for the Empalme orphanage. He sent this message to me last month:
Hello No Sniveling,
If you ever have too much dorado or other fish, I can use them for the children at the orphanage. Call me at 226-0094 of 226-1810 and I will pick them up. I am trying to fill up the freezer at the Empalme Orphanage with protien foods. It gets skimpy in the summertime.

Now comes the hard part-how do we spread the wealth among all the orphanages and the kids Mark Mulligan supports? Any thoughts on this?
Also for many of us the weekends are the only time we fish-so we need to have a somewhat spoil-proof plan for dealing with the fillets on a rapid basis and some business may be closed. Come on guys, who has big walk-in coolers and would be willing to be a drop point for these fish?

Bart,
Maybe someone could give the Empalme orphanage its own subtitle on the front of the website (like the fishing, diving and general San Carlos forums each have their own) to help bring attention to their plight? I really am not too familiar with it, except what I have read in these posts. Maybe Where to donate and about the ophanage and children in general just to help educate people about it. I only go down a few times a year, but could they use anything?(ie old clothes also). Maybe the marina could have a drop off point?

| I am in disbelief that somene actually posted this and is proud of it. There are a lot of ways to help the disadvantaged, and breaking laws isn't one of them. Last edited on Wed Jun 14th, 2006 07:50 pm by awatson

Well said Cobia! This "Mel" jerk should be ridden out of town on a rail...he's the ugliest of Ugly Americans: childish, ignorant, and needy in the extreme. Regardless of whether fish are eaten or left to rot makes no difference to the fishery once they are dead...they will never reproduce to make more dorado for succeeding years. So, Mel, or whomever, can eat 'em and then poop 'em over a cliff, but killing that many fish is destructive and excessive.

| Mel, my wife and i are connected to DIF, Guaymas and are not aware of any orphans from Empalme who are being bussed to San Carlos for breakfast. Could you explain this?

| Wow, I think this link has gotten way out of hand! None of us condone what Mel has done -- but, he didn't say the fish benefited the Empalme Orphanage and they didn't. Obviously, if you're involved in the other orphanage, that would only leave the third orphanage as a possibility. I guess JC's would know, but is it worth pursuing after all of this? I don't think Mel will be bragging again online -- let's hope he was lying about the number of fish or, at least, will think twice before catching that many ever again! Enough said?
