Both-board members and other members paid dues and we also sought contributions.
Funding this type of organization is always a challenge...

Response to my query to past board members of Amigos was that the few who replied no longer have the time or the interest. Might be best to start from scratch.
sorry....

Thanks Bart,
Okay who will help me? Does anyone here think that we have to try to save this fishery? Other than me I mean?
How many fishing boats are stored or dragged down here to fish? Let’s say 3000.
How many in Loreto, Rocky Point, Los Barrelies etcetera etcetera. Are there a 100,000?
Would Vagabondos solicit and collect memberships? Would Conapesca and other agencies selling licenses jump on this bandwagon?
Would Mexicans join if the charter spelled out some benefits to them?
Would the sticker on the boat saying "Member" be of value to the owner?
Would the tree huggers come out of the woodwork and put their money where their mouth is?
Would “Hubb’s Research Institute” help us? (They are the principle scientists on the white sea bass project in So. Calif.)
There are many environmental organizations that have an interest. Are they all talk? Would divers join?
I would like to know that I have done my best to build fish stocks in the Gulfo California not just took from it.
Who will help, who will join, who will recruit, who really feels the same as I do?

Dave,
Short answer..I'm in, and happy to help if I can.
I haven't read through this topic for a while so maybe Sea Watch was already mentioned. Check http://www.seawatch.com if not as they have been making an effort for a while and would love help I'm sure. It might be more effective to affiliate with Sea Watch.
I did a little looking around a couple years back having the same thoughts as you and others. I agree an association could make an impact as long as it was beneficial for Mexican Commercial Fishermen. Basically, if doing the right thing made sense (aka $$$) for the Commercial Fishermen. The only thought I had was to start a fish farm, turtle farm or shrimp farm and employ the fishermen that otherwise would be illegally fishing.
My time is remarkably limited as I am a new father and committed to my business in Tucson. I would like my new son to be able to catch fish in San Carlos when he's old enough to reel (manual not electric . I'm not willing to lead, but happy to help where I can.
