We arrived in SC may 28, fished monday in flat conditions out of Real on a 220 about 25 out we limited on a long line "corner" which was a large 30 gallon barrell. It was holding many more dorado when we left. We released many smaller dorado. our keepers were 15 to 20 pounders with one at 30. switched to large plastics to troll in and released a 200 pound marlin. Tuesday we went to Tortuga and limited on dorado looking for larger fish but only found 15 to the largest at 25 pounds. Wednesday- day off. thursday was 210 at 30 miles we found a large log that must have been its own ecosystem holding the most dorado we have ever seen "NOT SCHOOLIES" many way over 25 pounds. We limited, we released many , and even caught some on spoons and top water plugs. Friday back out to 30.4 on a 210 and limited by 10:00 am on a large weed paddy including a 40 lb bull that our rookie Don a grueling 40 minute battle! Most of the fish were caught on skirted ballyhoo and daisy chain plastics. Looks like SC is off to a great summer. Good luck "peel & reel"

Great report!  What set-up was your rookie using that made for such a long fight on the 40lb bull?

Hi Dave- we use 30-50 pound,  6'6" trolling rods with shimano TLD 25 reels all spooled with  40 pound  hi visibility line. We have caught 35 and 40 pounders in the past. We all thought this bull was a 50 pounder, so we borrowed Catch 22's scale; It was 40.5 pounds. I'm trying to post some pictures, but am not having much luck. Any help from you guys would be great.I am no computer wizz. see all of you in a couple of weeks. -John "peel and reel"

John,  Thanks for the details.  How do those rigs work on a billfish hook-up?  Seems like hi-vis line is very popular, maybe I'll try it when I respool my reels.
