I am no expert but when I tow my boat , I stick to the eastern route. We are headed down next Saturday with a 30 ft wide load boat, any suggestions or short cuts would be greatly appreciated. Jeff

You save 15 minutes going straight though. However if you are pulling a boat or a trailer it's better to take the truck route.

Go straight through whether pulling a boat or not, unless it's rush hour. I've taken a 30 footer through many times.

I returned on the 30th, and all construction was finished on the detours - in and out of town on the route past the prison. Is that what you are calling the eastern route? If so, that is the only one I would use.

We just got back a week ago. Going down we went straight......was on Friday and probably around noonish. It was a NIGHTMARE. They drive like maniacs and you have to be totally on your guard at all times.....bumper to bumper. The guy driving is very calm, great driver and even he thought it was horrible. Coming back, we took the other route. Took less time and was much more peaceful and pleasant. Very easy route...... Hope that helps.

Now that the construction is finished the "Eastern route", the one past the prison is easy and fast. They even reduced and marked the speed bumps or "topas". I went through twice in May and made it through from the toll booth North of town to the Pemex South of town in about 30 minutes. Much faster than before.
Best Regards,
Chuck

The one big problem going through town with a boat is that the kids washing windows take things out of your boat and run like hell. I know its happen twice with me. And thiers is nothing you can do about it. Truck route if pulling a boat and through town if not.

It is very easy. As you enter H. there is a traffic light by the cement works on the left.
Go to the next light and turn left, sign to Guaymas, then follow all signs to Guaymas and you end up back on route 15 heading South for another 1 1/4hrs then turn right at the SC turn off.

I always use the route following the Periferico Oriente; follow the signs to Guaymas, and turn left at the intersection where the hotel zone starts. If you go straight at that intersection, you go right through the middle of town. Both arrive at the intersection with Hwy 15 on the other end of town, but I think there is less traffic on the Oriente. There were major delays with construction earlier this year, but that is all completed now.

I just went to Tucson and by taking the truck route I made it in 7 minutes from one end of town to the other. Coming back it took me 9 minutes. Best thing they ever did. anyone who goes straight through town is either nuts or likes self punishment.
