I found this info on the elusive Robinson Canyon "trail" going thru some of my old GPS ride downloads.
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4940416
Go to that webpage. I have heard from friends you have to click a couple times sometimes.
Once there, you will see a rudimentary map of the San Carlos area. You can change it to a satellite view which is better, and then upsize to a larger picture if you wish.
The 'money shot' though is if you have Google Earth on your computer. At the bottom of the graphic you can click a link to Google Earth. This takes the entire overlay and drops it onto Google Earth so you can scan in close on the route, check out the topography, really have some fun checking out the area.
This is about a 53 mile loop as you can see form the GPS specifications. Challenging and technical on a dirt bike for sure and you do have to ride back on the Hwy 15 to get home.
On a mountain bike it would be a VERY long day. A couple of the first miles in the canyon are sand so you would have to push/carry your bike. The better choice is to have someone drop you at the highway and you ride toward the ocean then back to town. This will cut about 12 miles off the loop and the nasty highway section.
If you have problems with this link, please PM me.

| Thanks for posting this. I always wanted to ride Robinson Canyon but wasn't sure about the access points.

That's pretty impressive. How difficult / dangerous is the ride?

It is not dangerous at all. However, I have not been up the canyon since the recent floods, so the rocks may be a little more challenging. Bushes may be a little more overgrown.
The main 'difficulty' is logistics. If you are going with a moto, then you don't have to worry about a drop off or pickup. On a mtn bike though, you should have someone drop you at one end... proferably on the east side of the trail off the Highway since its a nice finish to end up at the water... maybe have a cool beverage at the Soggy Peso bar to cap things off.
