While our boat was in storage in Marina Real yard our 8 hp Nissan, which was locked to the stern, was stolen. Believe it happened sometime after the storm (lots of mud on the line used to lower it). It was like new, just had all the engine decals removed. It also has a souped up carburator. We have reported it to the police, which was an experience in it's self! Took us three days and $140 pesos to get a typed copy of the report.

That is a real bummer, there were a lot of predatory thieves out after the storm.

Vince, are you referring to the thieves in the storage yard or the policia?

| Thanks, understand both view points! Over the past 5 years we' e never had a problem, so this is our first time experiencing the policia policy (or lack of policy). A real eye opener . . . here at home the insurance company is screaming for proof and in Mexico, oh, "our typist is off until Tuesday"!

Hey GW,
I'm curious as to the general security of the dry docks. Do the docks store your goods at "your own risk" or do they accept any responsibility? I also realize that this was after the hurricane so I'm sure their was much traffic after.
Are the dry docks considered a safe place in general?
Cheers!

This is our fourth season of storing the boat in dry storage and this was the first time we've had a problem. We do think it had something to do with the storm. During the storm our hard-bottom dingy was blown off the bow and was hanging when a friend found it. He enlisted some help from a local (worker) to get it to the ground. He tied it up to the stanchons. We had the boat moved to the maintenance yard the day before we arrived. Found the dingy still in the storage yard (just fine) but on boat, the lifting strap and mud caked line from the hoist were in pile on the deck, but no motor. During the storm water did build up against one wall and the Carolyn Kay toppled over three days later, taking out part of the wall.
No the marina took no responsibility for the motor. We've submitted the claim to our insurance company, but you know how that goes! The motor is probably in a pawn shop somewhere . . . and we're offering a reward if anyone finds it!
As a whole, I think it's pretty safe there . . . only heard of two other incidents, and that was several years ago.
