Hi my friend drove down to Guaymas last week to visit her mom. On the way back, between Hermosillo/US border, 2 cars pulled out in front of her and blocked the road. They pulled a gun out and demanded all her cash, but (extremely) luckily, a patrol car pulled up behind her and the guys took off.

I have a trip planned to San Carlos the 13-15th, and am mostly wondering if anyone has had anything like this happen? Anyone drive down there the past week or so?

I drove down last Sunday, arriving in San Carlos around 3 pm, but did not see or experience anything unusual.

That is a really bad development. Good timing on the patrol car though - lucky lady.  So, can you get any more specific on the location?

Was she driving a US plated vehicle? Where, specifically, was this? Did she inform the police of what had happened?

I have drove from Tucson to SC for the last 3 weekends and all has been OK. I wouldn't let something like this interfere with my plans. You are more likely to get mugged in Tucson at a Circle K. Always keep your eyes open, but overall, you are probably safer once you get a few miles south of Nogales.

Would it be OK if we ask for a little more information, Chad?

Let's let everyone set their OWN level of comfort.

More information is good.

I couldn't resist this one. While I certainly sympathize with the victim of this incident, I did some research and found that Tucson had 274 muggings (they call them "highway robberies") in the first 6 months of 2007. I propose that we exercise the same abundance of caution while we travel around Tucson.

You're welcome to. I dont travel there as I live down here full time. I'm planning on living the rest of years down here.

So, I am interested in the details of THIS incident, not speculation on what MIGHT occur elsewhere.

There's probably more crime in Oakland or Detroit, too. So what? I should ignore any information I can get about my surroundings???

I hope we'll hear more specifics from thinkingplease about this event, such as where it happened and what the arriving cop did upon hearing about it. Something doesn't sound quite right, know what I mean?

Honestly you guys, get a grip.  Maybe the person was newly signed up because he is making his/her first trip to San Carlos and was actually concerned about this situation.  Thinkingplease (the original poster) did respond to a question and posted the day and time of the incident.  The good news is that the potential victim wasn't robbed and came to no harm; the bad news is that because of the aforementioned, we have no reliable verification of the incident as "almost crimes" don't make the papers.

Maybe, Mary, but it is suspicious, and it happened to "a friend'.  There are some real trolls out there.

Well, if he was making it up, why say it happened to a friend? Why not say it happened to him, if he's looking for attention?

Huh? That don't make no sense even if he only has half a brain. I believe this post originator is full of a bunch of BS. and has an "axe to grind"

We just did a round trip to San Carlos from Tucson with no sign of trouble.   We travelled on a Wednesday both days and the traffic was quite heavy.    No delay at KM 21 heading south.    Going north both military check points were a piece of cake, and only a 15 minute wait at the U.S. border.     Like anywhere in the world, tourist should be aware of their surroundings.
