Would someone like to recommend a local agent who sells tourist auto insurance policies?
Someone I can email my information to and who can email the policy (in English and Spanish) back to me so I can print it and have it with me in the car as I travel to San Carlos and elsewhere in MX?
Thanks for any replies.

Unless there is some reason you want local you can do it on line. I use Lewis and Lewis.

Thanks, will. Online works for me, I am just looking for recommendations from policy holders who are happy with the company they are covered by (and premium amt) and would 'tell a friend'.
Online is actually what I want so I can print the policy and max coverage limits to have with me when I enter MX next week.
Thans again

| use lewis and lewis. claim service will be virtually the same in mexico as a result of using independent adjusters. i've had clients for 30 years that have had claims in mexico and it seems to me that they are all similar in claim handling. lewis and lewis have the lowest rates i've seen.

| I use San Xavier Insurance in Nogales, Az. Also, at least with my company, the rate for 1 year is only slightly more than the rate for much shorted time periods so it is worth it in case your stay is a little longer than expected.

Thanks, Mesa. after being on a few web sites and getting quotes, I had come to the conclusion that I may as well purchase a one year policy, as you recommend. Good advice.

| I have purchased Mexican car insurance from my Allstate agent in the U.S. in the past. You might be able to do the same with your agent if that is available and certainly might be more convenient. Good luck!

You can also get quotes from multiple carriers online at http://www.sancarlosmexico.com/insure.html

We go through AAA to get insurance and they partner with GNA (Grupo Nacional Provincial, S.A.) We have a 2006 Toyota Tundra and the policy for 1 year cost us $505.85. You can go to their web page and select Mexican Auto Insurance and you can put in your info and get a quote before you actually buy and yes a 1 year policy is cheaper. You can purchase and print everything you need right on your computer. You don't need to be a AAA member either. I am anxious to see if you can find someone cheaper. Hope this helps .

I insured for many years with Hambone in San Carlos, was reasonable and covered everything including legal coverage in event of accident (so they dont confiscate your car while trying to figure out what happened if you are involved in accident with Mexican National ). I had several RV's insured with them also.
Your question was about Mexican insurance through a local carrier, but one caveat about AAA, since another poster mentioned them. I insured once with AAA when we drove through Baja en route to San Carlos and needed to have a policy with us. We bought coverage at AAA at Tijauna border, and it was expensive. This year I canceled my AAA coverage due to many problems with them. Then after I canceled my problems increased, we had a dispute over a payment due 4 months after I canceled and they tried to turn me over to collection agency. I had canceled by Internet/email when I was overseas, but they said it was invalid unless I called and cancelled on the phone. I had to file a complaint to California Insurance Board before AAA would even respond, and finally resolved it, but not without a big headache. I now have Geico in US and usually Hambone in Mexico.
As others have noted, the cost of anything over 2 weeks is usually the same as one year.
Hope that helps

Thanks, 5:00 SMWHR-
I finally decided on Lewis and Lewis because of the available coverages (which are undoubtedly different from AAA) and paid about $130 less for a one year policy - but my car is 2 years older than yours. Everyone's situation and facts are different, as well as the optional coverages they chose.
Thanks again for your helpful response.

Thanks for the informative report on your experience with AAA. One can learn from another's unfortunate encounters; I will keep yours in mind.

I have been a Hambone customer for many years puchasing annual policies. I look for a policy and an agent who will satisfy claims if/when they occur. That is more important to me than going for the cheapest policy. A while back, my wife was involved in an accident. Even though the fault was with the other driver and with another carrier, Hambone jumped right in and made sure we were taken care of -- supervising both the claim processing and the repair. In my view, their past actions deserve my ongoing business with them.

ballenagris-
Someone gave me an email address for a person at Hambone, but the message came back undeliverable. So I had to move on and make a purchase, but I would be interested in getting a quote from Hambone when the one year policy I now have is ready to expire.
Thanks again to all who responded to my posts.

Another one to throw into the mix. We get ours from
http://www.bajabound.com
Others might do the same, but it it nice as it stores your vehicle info so you can just click to reactivate the same vehicle. Store multiple vehicles in your account to just click and activate for any of them. Click on any vehicle to see how long you paid for (we juggle a few different ones with longer term contracts usually). They give a few levels of coverage to choose from. Print the policy from your PC.

Don't forget the medical coverage limits on mexico auto insurance policies is usually around $2000 USD. You may need to consider additional short -term health insurance to cover while driving or visiting.
