Once again, I solicit the San Carlos English speaking community to participate in an ongoing mentoring program at Colegio Americano where you would work with and become close to talented Mexican youth.
This year we are emphasizing a much closer one-on-one mentoring relationship with the specific purpose of improving English pronunciation skills.
We are in need of two male mentors and two female mentors. Each mentor will be assigned to a high school student who speaks good English but lacks solid pronunciation skills. We ask each mentor to spend 2-3 hours per week with a student talking in English. Discussions can be on any subject. During a discussion, the mentor's job is to help the student with better pronunciation.
The mentor will meet with the student at a mutually chosen place and time. Sitting on the beach, going to lunch, or just hanging out at the school are all acceptable alternatives.
The rewards to a mentor are great as one integrates into the Mexican culture and becomes part of the lives of students and their families.
I invite you to contact me for more information at ballenamar@mexicomail.com.
