I know this subject has been covered many times, but I can not find in the archives the web site for purchasing a new TIP. Could someone please re-post.
Thanks in advance.

| Temporary import permit (applies to vehicles and boats) Don't know the web site. What are you going to import? If you are staying in the free zone, you don't need one for your car. Don't know what the rules are about boats brought in on trailers and kept in the free zone.

Hey Matt---Just type in TIP in the search above. Go to page 2 and it will give you all the info you need to be thoroughly confused.
I don't know if Marina Seca is getting TIP's now but they got one for me 18 months ago. If not I guess we all have to haul our boats back to 21....would that not be fun.

A TIP for a boat is quite a different animal from one for an auto. Boat TIP is good for 10 years. Auto is good for 6 months max unless under resident visa. Different forms & rates and issued by different offices. We strongly suggest that you get a TIP for the boat, regardless of other permits required. A ten year boat TIP is good for multiple entry/exit into Mexico and is a necessity if you plan to store/leave the boat in Mexico for any period of time.

| You can get a TIP at Bancomer near the entrance to the new marina in Guaymas. Just bring ownership docs.

You can apply for your TIP on line from the US through Banjercito's web site. The link to the English-language application is:

Most have the boat w/you also. They will want to see it.
Need to have originals and not photo copies.

| Everyone's experience is different but they did not need to see the boat at Bancomer when I did it. Rules change all the time but it is worth a try to just take your paperwork as towing a boat downtown is not fun.

I got mine about 3 years ago in Guaymas. They came out to the marina to inspect it.
I first tried to get it at the border. And they definitely wanted to see the boat. But I had a photo copy of my US coastguard Certificate of Documentation. It was a color copy, I didn't think anything about it, and I'm still not sure how they knew it was a copy. But they wouldn't accept it.
Marina San Carlos will do the leg work for you to get the TIP. It use to be a $50 fee. In Guaymas when I was there a couple years ago they didn't speak much English.

| I got mine two years ago at the border with no problems. I had the boat with me but they never asked to see it and made no effort to leave the office to inspect it in the parking lot. The serial numbers of everything were required, hull, engines, electronics. Very simple process.

Want to correct my previous post. It is Banjercito not Bancomer.
Like many things in Mexico the procedures seem to vary a lot. A friend came through the border a week ago and they insisted on him getting the TIP there and inspected the boat very carefully.
