Hola! We're arriving in San Calos next Thursday, July 30, and will be there until the following Tuesday, Aug. 4. We're coming down primarily to look at a sailboat but are wondering what else we should do while we're there.
Anyone have any recommendations for sightseeing, day trips (we have a car), events, good eats, places to snorkel/dive, cultural stuff, etc.?

Be sure to hit the Soggy Peso for an afternoon cerveza on the beach.

| Lobster tacos and great sunset views at Charlie's Rock; great pizza and music at Froggies; and like taoswheat posted--a beer, or other libation, and munchies at the Soggy Peso (my personal favorite place to go--great beach, cleanest and most beautiful restroom I have ever seen at a beach location, and covered area (pilapa, I think it's called) to sit and enjoy the ambiance. Man, I am so ready to be there...

And don't forget the fishing!
Head on out for a day or half-day with one of the charter services in town.

Honestly its too hot and muggy to do anything but play in and around the water.
I'd point all activities to water-based.
In the late Fall, winter, spring you can hike, golf, bike, or any number of sightseeing. Now though... too hot.

Ugh. Is it humid? I'm really not looking forward to the heat.
We will probably be spending a LOT of our time in the water. We're also thinking of taking a day trip to Alamos. Spending a few hours in an air conditioned car doesn't sound like such a bad idea if it's that hot.

It'll be really hot in Alamos too, but it is a lovely town and worth a visit.

| It sounds lovely. It looks like it's about a three-hour drive from San Carlos, correct?

| Just a reminder, if you are going to Alamos, you will need at least an 'All Sonora' car permit because it is outside the free zone. Best to get it at K21, assuming you are coming in via Nogales since you have to stop there anyway. Also if you are planning to spend time in the water, read a few of the posts re jellyfish. You may want to get a skins before leaving the US. Last edited on Mon Jul 27th, 2009 12:34 am by mesa
