We've stayed at Pilar several times over the years and never gave it any thought ... but are there any beaches or bays in the SC area that are too polluted to swim in?

I'm planning a trip with the family in October and staying on the Caracol Peninsula .. and I would like to know if there are areas to avoid - or areas that are especially clean.

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Don't know if any tests have even been conducted, but currents sweep by our beaches and I've never felt the water was polluted. Now beer cans and chip bags on the beach after a weekend are a different story, but everyone I know would call our waters pretty clean. Probably not having a Los Angelos or New York draining into the area helps...

Thanks for the info. We'll be snorkeling in the coves of San Carlos Bay with the kids. Hope to see lots of sea life!

thanks!

You can get a map of local coves for snorkeling at the dive shops. We have gone in Marinaterra Beach Club next to Caracol, Lalo, Frenchies, Esmeralda, San Carlos Plaza hotel beach(North East end), and off the point near Paradiso. All have been good and all have pretty easy access for children and beginners. Head for the rock outcroppings to see the most fish. Look at the beach and the waves coming in for jellies and ask others too. It could be bad in one area and great in another. Martini cove is great too but you need a boat to get there. Good Luck!
