Hi,

Does anyone know a good place to buy plants in San Carlos?  I went to the nursery out in Miramar and they had a good selection but not everything I was looking for.

Thanks!

depends on what you want.  I've found the nursery in San Carlos (Carmalitas) is heavy on flowers, but not allot of the larger stuff or succulants.  nice place, just different taste than I have.

The vivero just north of the miramar turn off,  but south of Guaymas norte has a good selection....owner is Martin...his prices are decent.

There is also a smaller vivero kind of between the Las Villas, Fovissste and El Dorado neighborhoods...this one is tough to describe....it's next to a small car wash called El Tigre.  He always has something neat.  Good selection of shade loving ornamentals too.

Maybe it would help if you said what you are looking for..  There are many viveros around but you need to be specific.

There is a tiny nursery on the other side of the road from the entrance to Delphinarium.  Does anyone know a vivero that carries herbs? and veggie starts?

I don't know the name of the plant but our condo is at the Bahia Delfin and many people have it.  It is a green viney plant that blooms yellow flowers.

I believe it is called cup of gold copa d'oro, but in the USA and here there are two cups of gold, one is small and one is very large.

Is there a succulent vivero anyplace in Guaymas? or San Carlos>

Hi,

I found a great nursery today on the road to Guaymas.  It had many great plants and good prices.  It was also nice for us that don't speak spanish because one of the employees spoke perfect English.  It is on the main road after the Chrysler dealer but before the bridge that goes into Miramar.

That is Martin's place.  His son, Martin, speaks perfect English, he is a Mechanical Engineering Major.  There is another employee...also named Martin.

they have limited succulents, but a good selection of shrubs and trees.

for the best succulents, you want the fellows in Miramar.  one of the younger employees there actually cultivates barrel cactus from seed...an 8 year labor of love before they are of saleable size.

We've been on the hunt for native plants other than cactus, e.g. ocotillo and palo blanco, etc.  None of the area nurseries seem to handle anything like that.  We did find a wonderful vivero in Hermosillo, however: Viveros el Paraiso.  It's near the university on Blvd Encinas, just east of Rosales.  They stock an amazing variety of plants, including ironwood.

Might anyone know of a local vivero carrying Moro blood oranges?

With regard to what to plant and when, check out the following site:

which has links to the U of Arizona extension office and the Maricopa County planting calendar (attached).
