Just a question for "Guaymas Residents" only:
_____________________________________________________________
I have been getting a ton of positve feedback from San Carlos residents about the American style Bagel Deli I am in the planning process of opening!
What I want to know is if people in Guaymas would drive to San Carlos and support a new business; if they knew there were fresh hot Bagels and Pastrami, Corned Beef and other American delicacies available?
A business like this NEEDS the support of a larger community to make it happen; not just San Carlos.
Prices will be "RIGHT" and kids will eat FREE (hot dog and soda) with every paying adult that purchases a sandwich.
Your comments would be appreciated !
Thanks,
Nesso

Let me put it this way. I love the products you plan to market but I would not drive from SC to Guaymas to buy them. Sorry , but I think your plan is flawed.
Best of luck.

I may be wrong but it seems to me that your market is mainly expats or people who have lived in the US and are accustomed to bagels etc. I'm not sure how many of those people you will find in Guaymas. For the locals, the cost is probably going to be a problem too.
If you can't make it on the customer base in San Carlos, then you might want to rethink the idea. Summer would be a very down time for you. The high season might possibly be sufficient but you need year round business.

I think San Carlos is becoming a year round place and there are many younger people moving here with their children. Those of us year rounders are enjoying seeing this transformation much like when Scottsdale used to be a Winter place only and we know that Scottsdale is a year round town now. If you have a good product and the price is right, think it could go. Used to be that this was a ghost town during the Summer, not any more. Go for it Nesso have you found a partner? Wish I could, but plate too full at the moment.

I don't think you are going to get many answers from Guaymas residents. They are mostly Spanish speaking only Mexicans. Most will never have been exposed to the foods you will be offering. As mentioned before, cost will definitely be an issue for the majority.
Eire, are you referring to young Mexican families w/children moving to San Carlos or gringo? If gringo, where are they working? I would think it would be difficult for very many gringo families to be able to work and support their families here. I could be totally wrong of course.

Eire,
Thanks for your nice comments!
What are your favorite Bagels in order of preference and what are your favorite American Jewish-style Deli sandwiches?
A successful business is the one that listens to the wants of their future customers.
Your imput would be greatly appreciated.
R U from the states originally and how much time do you spend in San Carlos?
Thanks again.

Gary and Howard, are you in San Carlos now? Have you been down here before? You don't seem very familiar w/Guaymas.

My preference is the plain water bagel. Lox and cream cheese with capersand sliced onions, Sandwich pastrami on rye with a kosher pickle of course horseradish. Always try to have a supply of Claussen sourkraut, pickles and green tomatoes.
There was an Italian Deli here at one time, take out only and it was very successful, then they opened a restaurant and I think staff was the biggest problem. There was also a small deli with lox and bagels here next to the SC bakery, but the owner left. In the kiosk by the bowling alley there was a smoked ribs and chicken place which was always full, owner moved, new owner changed recipe? and place closed.
Yes there are a number of younger gringos living here and working with their children going to school in Guaymas. Maybe they will respond, but think you might ask that question on the other board for a little more action.
Good luck Gary and Howard

Don't kid yourself, there are a lot of gringos living in Guaymas.
1. We are immersed more in the Mexican culture than the Gringo culture while in Mexico.
2. Not like living back home and rubbing shoulders with nothing but other gringos in SC.
3. Guaymas is full of Life.
4. Close to everything one needs to live.
5. Cost of housing and other things needed to live is cheaper.
6. There is a lot more things to do.
7. Did I say that we don't have to put up with the Gringos?

Way to go Jimmy. Guaymas is a great town, as is Empalme. Amazingly there are many gringos living in San Carlos who have never driven to Guaymas which is sad as there is so much to see and do and learn.

Since you are a gringo living in Guaymas Jimmy, why don't you also take the time to answer the initial question. Are you willing to drive to San Carlos for bagels?

   Maryt, Thank you!
You are right! I am still waiting to hear from Guaymas residents.....................
If a good product of Bagels, Cream Cheese, Pastrami, Corned Beef, Rye Bread, etc. is available in San Carlos; will you make the drive from time-to-time.
Thank you.

If you change your mind, 1/2 dz. is on me so you'll know how good our product is for the next time you get lost going Northwest and want to stop in SanCarlos for directions back home.

They say Never say Never, so, maybe.
But, in Mexico I avoid Gringos like the Plague.
The reason I live in Mexico is to escape the American culture. While in Mexico I think of myself as Mexican.
I am a Viet Nam combat vet who found Stateside hard to tolerate.

Jimmy,
Being one of our dedicated and "NOT FORGOTTEN" warriors, I am sure that you will NEVER get lost; but if you do and end up in San Carlos; drop by and it would be my HONOR and pleasure to serve you a "Steamed HOT" Pastrami, Beef Brisket or Corned Beef sandwich on seeded rye bread with a slice of half cured pickle, side of potato latke, side of claremont cole slaw salad and a chocolate phosphate to drain it all down.
Thank you for your service to our wonderful (but sometimes backwards) country,
Gary

Nesso my mouth is watering - hurry up and open, is everything set? Can't wait, location?
Jimmy, I think we are all here because we prefer to live here, I know for one I love San Carlos and Guaymas and go back and forth, just love Mexico and the people and customs. Just sometimes really crave a bagel, in fact last Sunday I made some from scratch and they were not half bad, for the first time, even made baked beans last night for the fourth.
Happy fourth of July, remember it is not just a holiday it is a celebration of those who sacrificed for us to make us free, not just a weekend of partying, but celebrating our freedom, wherever we may be.
