Some family, friends and I are visiting San Carlos for the first time this next week, will be driving down from phoenix. I will be missing my son's birthday and need to bring him back something "cool" for a gift. Is there a lot of shopping for native goods in San Carlos, or on the way down is there a better place to find souvoniers?
Also I read on the forum, that Man of War may be on the loose soon, anyone seen any yet?
One last question to those who don't mind answering, if you only had one chance to do something while in San Carlos, what would it be?
Thanks and I may meet some of you in person next week.

The one thing I would do is "have fun". SC is a great place.
Their are a few curio shops and plenty of places to shop for other things. Not really like Rocky points malecon more quiet and quaint.
I would take either a sunset cruise or a nature cruise.
Have fun with SC.

| As the last post said, there are a number of gift shops in SC. I have looked around a bit and IMHO, there are no gift shops between SC and the border except in Nogales and the first little town that is a few miles south of K21. I have looked in Magdalen, Santa Ana and Hermosillo and haven't find any gift shops in those places. There isn't much in Guaymas either. Over in baja, all the little towns have gift shops but they are not to be found on the mainland side. There are a few places in Hermosillo where you can find iron wood carvings but nothing any different from what is available in SC.

| Thanks a bunch, I most certainly will have fun. It snowed here just last saturday and I am ready for some heat and sun. Swimming would be a pleasure period, maybe some diving. I don't think I will need a wet suit, I swim up here in Sakakawea during the summer when the water temp is in the 60's for hours on end, but I do worry about the jellys.

Bring a skin. If you dive you might be interested in diving with the "alien" fish pods. Read that thread. A tour by boat is a definate, walking along the numerous beaches.Soggy Peso for sunset, Greek Palapa for lunch on the beach. Margarita Revilla has a gift shop right next door to the post office in San Carlos and she does all the art work, repujado especialy, worth checking out. There are also curio shops all over San Carlos, Saggitario being one of the best, I think. Bananas for the folklorico/mariachis.

| Go sail on a Trimaran Sail Boat with Vince at the Sonora Sports Center. You could swim and dive off of it too. Awesome experience at sunset.

| If this is a one time event and you don't want to go to the expense of a skin, pantyhose will work. You would need 2 pairs, one for the legs and a second for a shirt after making adjustments with a pair of sissors.

Good afternoon,
All great ideas, and a couple of places I like to go.
On your way to the Soggy Peso, stop at the Mirador, great view. If memory serves me, the beach that you pass on the way to the top was used in the filming of the first Zorro movie.
My wife and I had a fun sunset cruise on the Hattie Anne. She got to sit on the very tip of the bow and watch the dolphins swim next to her feet.
Been coming down for many years and always find lots to do.
(Remember your visas, ins. etc.)

I don't know about anyone else but, I'm interestingly confused and curious about the pantyhose and the short stingers. Is there some protection provided from the sting of a jellyfish if you are wearing ...pantyhose? Would a jellyfish sting cause a "run"?? I used to hear ladies comment about a run in their nylons. And would you be able to rent tanks from Gary's dive shop ....wearing pantyhose as a dive suit? What would your mother think?
I remain inquisitive.

| Actually the stingers on jelly fish are quite short which is why the pantyhose works. I got the idea orginally from friends down under where the jelly fish are serious, not just an inconvenience. During the summer the box jellyfish accumulate near the beachs in the north and generally a sting is fatal within a few minutes.

I've not encountered any jelly fish yet.... I've only been swimming north of Algodones and at Piedras Pintas though.
When you refer to Box Jelly Fish stings that are fatal in minutes...you are referring to those encountered on the Northern Shores Down Under....as in the norther sections of Australia?

Short stingers!?
Everytime I get into an aqua mala tail/chain I come out looking like I have a necklace of little angry red stings on my body.
Maybe the stinger from the poison sack is short but the chain sure isn't short.

Yes about the box jellyfish in northern Aus. The occur along the shore but for some reason aren't found further out, e.g. on the Great Barrier reef.
The long things hanging from a jellyfish are the tenacles and these can be up to 20 feet long in some cases and can be large. These however aren't what does the business. The stingers are very small things that are located on the surface of the tenacles.

Just word of caution here. Do not, I repeat, Do not wear your pantyhose in any facility that makes car batteries. One of my customers was Trojan Batteries (Yes, real name, but feel free to comment anyway) and one of the secretaries said that the faint fumes in the air melted their nylons. I swear, this is true! So be forewarned all you guys and gals out there with electric boats and don't wear your protective pantyhose around any batteries.
