BE ADVISED.....THE CENTER DUE SATURDAY, WITH LOCAL WEATHER SHOWING STORMING STARTING THURSDAY.
THERE IS A POSSIBLE HURRICANE HEADING FOR SC AND GUAYMAS.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A DIRECT HIT TO GUAYMAS, BUT THIS LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE CLOSER THAN ANY THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED IN MY MANY YEARS IN THE AREA, ..EVEN EVER!!! EVEN IF IT IS A TROPICAL STORM IT WILL BRING LOTS OF DESTRUCTION TO THE AREA!

Isn't sensationalism great! In the many years I have been here, I have seen many hurricanes hit. Within a few days, most of us were back to normal.

If you can read the above postings you can get accurate (as is possible) forecasting for yourself. I like the following link to NOAA. It is specifically for our area so w/one click I am looking at Tropical Storm Lowell's projected path and the written forecast. Which, by the way, does NOT indicate something fearful coming our way. Unfortunately, one man's dodged bullet is another's cause of death. Hurricane Henreitte which hit Empalme directly last year as a 1 did not cause much damage for many in SC but did cause damage to our place on the water from the high waves. The heavy rains a couple of weeks ago bothered us not a whit but wiped out places in Guaymas and caused damage to some others in SC.

TROPICAL STORM LOWELL DISCUSSION NUMBER 11
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL EP132008
800 AM PDT TUE SEP 09 2008
DEEP CONVECTION HAS BEEN ON THE DOWNWARD TREND DURING THE PAST 6-12
HOURS...AND THE LOW-LEVEL CIRCULATION IS NOW PARTIALLY EXPOSED.
THE INITIAL INTENSITY IS LOWERED TO 40 KT. LOWELL IS ENCOUNTERING
A LITTLE NORTHEASTERLY SHEAR AND THERE IS SOME STABLE AIR TO ITS
NORTHWEST. GRADUAL WEAKENING IS THUS FORECAST IN LINE WITH THE
DECAY SHIPS MODEL. IF LOWELL CANNOT GENERATE NEW CONVECTION...
WEAKENING COULD OCCUR FASTER THAN FORECAST. IN ABOUT 2 DAYS...WHATS
LEFT OF LOWELL IS FORECAST TO TRACK OVER THE BAJA PENINSULA
RESULTING IN FURTHER WEAKENING. FORECAST POINTS ARE GIVEN THROUGH
96 HOURS FOR CONTINUITY...BUT IT IS UNCLEAR IF THE CYCLONE CAN
SURVIVE THAT LONG.
FIRST LIGHT VISIBLE IMAGERY INDICATES THAT CYCLONE IS MOVING
NORTHWESTWARD AT ABOUT 6 KT. A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHEAST IS
EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO TAKING THE CYCLONE...OR ITS
REMNANTS...OVER THE BAJA PENINSULA AND INTO MAINLAND MEXICO. THE
NEW OFFICIAL TRACK FORECAST IS ESSENTIALLY AN UPDATE OF THE
PREVIOUS ONE.

Actually, according to the NOAA Hurricane Center, there is a Tropical Depression headed that way. It is not a hurricane now and shows weakening from Tropical Storm strength to a Tropical Depression before crossing Baja. Basically, there is rain coming.

CHANGE----POSSIBLE HURRICANE TO-----BIG STORM
As far as I know no hurricanes have ever hit the Guaymas area. Several years back a tropical storm dumped so much water South and East of Emplame that 10s of thousands were flooded out.---Old timer you must remember that!?
I have worked in the States, (helping folks get their life back ) on most of the big hurricanes and many small tropical storms over the last 20+ years.
A wise man sees the writing on the wall and acts accordingly.
A foolish man ignores all.
I have had to deal with families who lost loved ones just because they were too bull headed to get out of harms way.
What if someone was coming down for the weekend? Trip wasted.
I wrote this warning for wise men and women, not the foolish nay sayers.
If nothing happens then I will suffer the slings and arrows. If it is destructive then I will throw the slings and arrows.

I like to eat my crow cooked in a pie. 4 & 20. And, I don't mind, I am just thankful that the storm moved away from my loved ones in Guaymas.
Wednesday, I will be in Houston as Hurricanes have provided me with a fine living over the past 20+ years as a Catastrophe professional.
