I have been reading the posts about the high airfare after checking the cost for flights a few different times this spring and being shocked. I don't know if any of you are connected to the hotel business there but are most vacation type visitors to the area from Arizona so they can drive? I can't imagine most people from other areas being willing to fly to Tucson and drive for 6 hours when they could go to cabo or PV for so much less.
We have discussed coming to San Carlos and opening a business but we are concerned with the cost of flights for tourists as well as costs to have our family visit us from different parts of the US.
Thanks for your input.

| I think you are right to be concerned. Tourism from the US will never be a large factor in San Carlos unless reasonable airfares are available. Even flights to Hermosillo have risen dramatically. Flights within Mexico are still pretty reasonable so I have no explanation for the high costs. I know people that are moving to Manzanillo because none of their family could afford to travel here to visit them. If you are considering opening a business that would depend on tourism I would do lots of research before committing.

| Fuel prices have made all prices go up but why should a round trip from Phoenix cost $485 to Puerta Vallarta and $819 to Guaymas?

That is the 64,000.00 dollar question. Also the planes flying to P.Vallarta are larger and of course the time and gas. Don't know who figured out this price structure, but that is the reason many leave San Carlos and go further South for the better fares for their kids.

| Too bad because we probably prefer San Carlos but PV does seem more viable right now. I read a couple of posts about the possibility of some competition to US Air but I am guessing that will take quite a while, if it happens at all.

Personally, I hope the fares remain at or above the current levels. That may be the factor that stops every Tom, Dick, and "tell'em about the discount Harry" in New York, Florida, Wisconsin, and Canada from funding high-rise condos at outrageous prices.
As I stated, a personal, if not selfish view. This is San Carlos, not Cabo, or Mazatlan, or ......

| as long as half filled planes come to San Carlos, the fares will be high. The airlines are not social service agencies.

| Oh, by the way, I like it like that, too. I am also selfish and want things to stay the way they are in San Carlos.

I, personally, would like to see San Carlos full of Tourist's. That would mean work for a lot of my friends and family and money to support their families.
And what do I care, I prefer Guaymas.
What I hear from the locals, is that most of the Gringos now in SC are penny pinching tightwads. (Don't get your nickkers in a wad) I said Most-not ALL). Free spending tourists would be a pleasant and refreshing change.
What should happen is that all tourist related business in SC should subsidize the price of a flight until the market is self supporting.
