| Got ripped off at the Pemex station in Guaymas, first station on right side going into Guaymas from SC. Asked the attendant to fill tank, when we left we realized that we had only gotten a few pesos of gas and he had gotten 110 pesos himself. So watch out.............

| it;s a good idea to stay at the pump while your tank is being filled. the Pemex at Benjamin Hill is another place to get ripped off.

Ditto for the Guadalupe Pemex, as you head out the south end of Hermosillo.
They also have the grossest bathrooms!

| I had a guy in Obregon say I only handed him 240 instead of 600. It was early and I should have gone back and checked my cash. He replaced the 200's with 20's. I guess the lesson is to take your time, spread the cash out when you hand it to them and show them that you are taking a close look at it.

When handing over cash that requires change, we always say how much we are giving them. It's worth making sure you have the Spanish numbers down pat so you can do this.

| We must all assume some responsibility at the Pemex pump. Ask for a specific PESO amount of gasoline (100-200=500); when the gas is delivered, hand the attendant the exact PESO amount, thereby eliminating the possibilit of being short changed or that you didn;t give the attendant the right amouont. Check the pump setting before gas is delivered (00.00), and after delivery. These two precautions will eliminate a lot of hassle. at the pump. The possibility that the pump dlivery computers are set 10 to 18% in favor of any Pemex station is something we all must pay for, and can only be remedied by the authorities. Happy trails to you!!!

It's too bad. For years I use to make a special trip to this Pemex for my diesel fuel. The attendants were honest, pumps were accurate and the fuel quality was good (clean). In April and then again in May the attendant tried to short change me. I have also notice that the locals are not using this Pemex which is a sure sign that there is a problem.
Time to find another Pemex. Anyone have a favorite for diesel in Guaymas?

| Reports can be made to the Mexican version of Consumer Affairs Board. Years ago it was in Hermosillo. Last edited on Sun Jul 20th, 2008 11:59 pm by Jimmy

This used to be a regular stop for me and for years never had any problem. Last year, for the 1st time in over 25 years of travel all over Mexico, I got scammed here. The typical "not resetting the pump" scam. Ended up paying 700 pesos for what was probably 350 pesos of diesel. I told the attendant he was wrong and he insisted that he had reset the pump; I know he didn't because my tank doesn't physically hold that much diesel! I begrudingly paid and told him to take a good look at my face because he would never see it at that Pemex again.
This trip, I used the nice, new Pemex that's just past the prison as you come through Hermisillo. Very friendly, good service, a covenience store, clean bathrooms, easy in and out even with the boat.
There seems to be new Pemex stations being built in many places between Nogales and San Carlos. Perhaps the competition will drive the corrupt ones out of business.
For diesel in San Carlos, I just used station across the street from the bowling alley. Good service, cleaned all my windows, friendly.

Go to a station that accepts credit cards, then you can dispute the charge should you later find you're ripped off.
Not sure about Guaymas, but the Pemex on the south side of the street in SC does.
I use cc's to purchase most things now days, Mexico or the US. Had 4 RT tickets with Aerocalifornia from LA to La Paz, $2000, become defunked when stopped service a few years back.
If it weren't for using a cc for the ticket purchase, I would have lost the money.
Is important to use a credit card and not debit.
Did have a cc identity theft in Panama, racked up $7,000 in one night using a card made from my number.
Disputed the lot, didn't cost me a dime.
Don't have to worry about being swindled on the change or exchange rates either.
Not for everyone, but has worked for me.
Do appreciate the heads up on that station, I will avoid it.
