Nogales International this morning:

(I can't seem to find anything online, so I'll type in the main points)

"Relief may be on the way:

The State of Sonora has secured approximately $10 million in funding...for a project to modernize the Benjamin Hill checkpoint."

"Gov. Eduardo Bours...is scheduled to announce today that bidding is open for design and construction of the new high-tech inspection station."

"...work should be completed in about 240 days."

Nice news -- thanks for passing it on. Thing is... that relieves one major bottleneck, but what does it do for the one at Mariposa? Dunno.

(Cuidado: they've stuck so many animated ads in their page that it can freeze a memory-challenged computer.)

I guess I looked on line too early, because it wasn't on their website yet! Here is a link with less popups:

Please note that these posts are dated in 2007.  BH checkpoint is open or will be very shortly.  I understand funding for an expansion of Maripopa crossing has been obtained but have not seen a timetable on construction.

Funny thing is, BH is open but the last time I went through (last week) the lineup of trucks was still long. My wife counted 90 trucks waiting.

Many trucks and buses yesterday!!!  Long lines for them but the autos were breezing right through.
