| Hello- We are thinking of purchasing a piece of land to build a house. It is on the golf course. We rented for a week in the summer and the mosquitos were very bad; but we have golfed in the fall and winter and had no mosquito problems. Is it bad all summer, or just a few weeks. Any and all your advise is very much appreciated.

John,
I've played the course year round for nearly 20 years... and have always found it to have a "bug problem" beginning mid spring thru mid fall... my wife and I always wear repellent... ALWAYS. We seem to get bit most in the Clubhouse area and holes 11 thru 13... but we've had problems all over the course depending on wind and weather... early morning and late evening T-times (preferred during warm month) are extremely bad... this is the primary reason we do not play more golf at the San Carlos course... it's truely a same too... we like the course, and since we're not effected by the summer heat like some are... often can get in 18 holes in 2 1/2 hours... but that oily repellent requirement...

There is some new type of clothing, at least new to me!,...that seem to ward off the annoying bugs. It is called "Buzz Off" and is made by Ex Officio...the clothes are supposed to be great. I just ordered a bunch and have only heard good things about it.

| There are plenty of mosquitos in San Carlos. They are more prevalent when the weather is warm and hot. There is plenty of standing water around - we are in a house on the golf course and there was a sprinkler left on for 8 days in the same position day and night! Not only standing water, but lush tropical plants attract them as they breed in the wet soil, such as in large pots. San Carlos is in the Sonoran desert, however, the humidity and tropical feel make LOTS of mosquitoes feel right at home. Cooler weather, as we are approaching, is no problem.
