In Dec. 2003, I entered Mexico through Nogales and at the entry station in Mexico filled out a form called "Migratory Form for Foreign Tourist." This was to have been stamped and (I believe) a fee paid in San Carlos, which was my destination. Unfortunately I didn't do this, since I left it too late and the two times I went to the bank, the appropriate clerk was not there. I left San Carlos and when I was back at the entry station, I was told (I think - I don't do Spanish) I couldn't pay there, but had to do it in San Carlos. Another "official," speaking English, said I could just leave and come back within six months, which at the time I intended to do. I didn't go back. Now I want to return, but will I have a problem with these documents and what can I expect in the way of a complication in my entry?

You will have no problems.  Put the old one in the trash and get a new one at k21.  Everything can be done there (immigration and bank).

If I were you, I would not ever throw ANYTHING like that away.  Keep it. Have it with you in the car. I think you are just fine without it, but if something pops out of the computer at km 21, you might wish that you had it with you.

WJC:  I know of about two dozen instances like Chuck's.  There is no computer tracking of an individual's entry, exit, or whether they paid at the bank after getting the initial form from immigration.

New visit, get a new form and do it right this time around.

Thanks everyone. I won't make the same mistake again even though the value of these documents seems not very high. I'm looking forward to a January visit.
